I kind of got tired of seeing people putting together logos in cyan and hot pink and throwing around the words “Miami Vice”, so I decided to do my own concept for Beckham’s as-of-yet-named Miami MLS club.
This was originally going to be in orange and green (the colors of Miami’s flag), but I couldn’t find a way to do it without it looking like an Ireland or Ivory Coast concept, or too similar to the Tampa Bay Rowdies. I eventually decided to switch to blue as a throwback to the Miami Fusion, but with the yellow being swapped for a yellow-orange to still allow for one of the city’s colors to make it in the final draft. It reminded me a bit of Porto, a club whose look I’ve always thought highly of, so I decided to go with blue and white stripes for the home shirt, and save the yellow-orange for detailing and the away shirt. The sun-ball was a nice mark I thought could represent the club well where the full badge isn’t needed (similar to Chelsea’s lion or Man United’s devil).
I wanted someone to be able to look at the badge and colors and immediately feel a tropical, sophisticated vibe, and I think I might have accomplished that.
