As for the Goal of the Year
I absolutely love both Hassli’s and Nagbe’s goals. Here’s what I will say:
- Darlington Nagbe had more touches on the ball before his goal
- Eric Hassli’s came later in his team’s match than Nagbe’s
- Nagbe had to shoot through an entire defense to get his goal
- Hassli shot from an insane angle
It’s still a close call for me, but I’d have to say Hassli’s was more of a stunner. I’m not taking away from Darlington Nagbe’s skill, because it was in many ways a superb goal. World class, even.
But Hassli’s was a quick-reaction shot from a ridiculous angle. And he arced it into the top corner. Nagbe’s goal was brilliant, but Hassli’s is a lot harder to reproduce, in my opinion, and that’s why I think he should’ve gotten Goal of the Year.
